HELPING THE SMALL FURRY ONES

Like you, I have been riveted to the TV watching the devastation (and chaos) created by Hurricane Katrina. I could go on and on about what I would have done if I lived in New Orleans. I could point fingers and postulate.

However, I figure there's enough of that going around and perhaps I'll even get around to it later. But for now, all I want to do is fix things. I want to make things better for those people and their families.

Most of all I want to make things better for the pets that were abandoned by people that in reality had no other choice. Would I have done it? I hope I'll never need to know. All I know is that we need to do what we can to help rescue them and reunite them with their families who have lost everything.

I know that not everyone agrees with this necessity. Why save the animals when it's the people that need help? Well, all I know is when you reunite someone who has lost their home and many of their loved ones - to give them back their pet is something magical. Pets help to make you feel complete. And when you have felt so out of control in such a horrific situation, getting your pet back must feel like you can once again take care of something and make at least one little part of your world right again.

Please do what you can to help these creatures. Loyal friends who can't even begin to comprehend what has happened to them, their families or their small protected worlds.

There are many ways to help:
Foster/Adopt a pet
Donate money, time or supplies to one of the many orgainizations out there - both national and local. Katrina animals are everywhere - our local group is fostering dogs right now and expecting to get more shortly.

Do what you can to make at lest one tiny creature happy again.
